How to Care for Cotton Clothing So It Lasts
Wash cold
Washing cotton in cold water reduces shrinkage and helps preserve colour. Most everyday cotton garments do not need hot water to come clean, and cold washing is gentler on the fibres.
Dry gently
High heat is the main cause of cotton shrinkage and wear. Drying flat or on a low setting protects the fibre and helps the garment keep its shape. Removing items while slightly damp and air-finishing them works well.
Wash less, wash full
Cotton does not always need washing after a single wear. Airing a garment between wears and running full loads reduces wear and saves water and energy.
Store it right
Fold heavier knits rather than hanging them, which can stretch the shoulders. Keep cotton dry and out of prolonged direct sun to protect colour.
